I am currently working with Surepoint Lending for a refinance in California of $460,000, and the house was appraised at 635,000. The rate appears good (4.85%) but the broker claims that I must pay $194.00 month for Mortgage Insurance for 5 years. Is this a legitimate fee? Everywhere I looked says that if I have over 20% equity I should not have to pay that. Is this correct?
